Existe em nós uma tendência natural de nos querer colocar mutuamente em tipos de compartimentos, de modo que cada um de nós possa imaginar o que o outro está pensando a prever as formas como o outro provavelmente vai se comportar. Queremo-nos mutuamente dentro de um compartimento, porque isso diminui a tensão de ter de viver com o mistério do desconhecido e porque, no Ocidente, temos o hábito dereduzir informações a categorias fixas, a fim de tentar fazer previsões do tipo causa-e-efeito.

There is in us a natural tendency to want to put each other in the types of compartments, so that each of us can imagine what the other is thinking to predict the ways the other will likely behave. We want each other within a magazine, because it lessens the tension of having to live with the mystery of the unknown and because in the West we have the habit of reducing information to fixed categories, in order to try to predict cause-and and effect.
